Differences Between Hazards, Disasters, and Catastrophes

There are major differences between the terms: hazards, disasters, and catastrophes. First of all, anything that has a potential to damage, injure, or destroy any living being or property is considered as a hazard. Next, disasters are the outcome of what the hazard has caused which are hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, etc. Disasters are also considered as a serious attack on the economy which can't be avoided and the community has to deal through it with the resources they have at hand. Finally, catastrophes are considered as a natural disaster that causes tragedy throughout the whole community which leads to great suffering or damage. Recovering from a catastrophe is a difficult situation which takes time and a lot of money to repair the damages that it has caused.
